Description: What can administrators do to train their staff on Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship? Your staff needs to understand the issues of bullying via electronic means, including social networks. They need to be able to identify students in crisis and support them. Do you have a plan in place? Are your staff trained to see the signs and implement a plan of action or intervention? Do you have a system of documentation? Description: In this session we will be covering copyright and fair use. Copyright infringement occurs when information is used or distributed without permission of the entity that owns the legal rights to that information. This includes using images, cartoons, music, and software on your website or in a document. What then are best practices of Fair Use? How can teachers and students safely use these resources in their teaching and learning. We will cover this and more in this session.

Description: With their many hand-held devices, students are mobile, wireless and on-the-go. How do you support productive uses of student communication when it is outside of our local area networks? Situations have arisen ranging from cyberbullying to sexting to cheating in schools. Where does your school district stand on the issue of mobile technology use? How can you balance the benefits of mobile technology in learning with the controls needed to provide a safe environment? A legal expert will address these questions and provide guidance on the latest updates to California education code.

Guest presenter will be attorney Jan Tomsky, the managing partner of Fagen, Friedman and Fulfrost’s Oakland office. She has an extensive practice with particular emphasis in special education and student matters, particularly those that involve complex or sensitive issues.

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel versions 2003 and 2007. Together we will create a basic schedule and explore other classroom uses of the software. This workshop will cover an overview of Excel, navigating the workspace, entering and formatting text, using Autofill, working with columns and rows, and printing and saving files. This class is designed for teachers who have not used Excel before.
